IntelliJ just released its 2026.3 version, with lots of new things. Here are my personal favourites:
- Jetbrains AIR gives you a uniform way to interact with different coding agents, including a free Junie. You do not need to install a separate plugin, like github copilot, however the copilot plugin still has some additional features.
- Better access to the intellij debugger and chrome devtools connection for agents
- Databases
- Hibernate
- A Hibernate debugger plugin: view generated SQL in the debugger, replaying filtering... looks great!
- JPA 4 / Hibernate 8 (under development) support
- Directly connect to DB in a docker container
- The AppGlass plugin allows you to add tracing to a running production application
- The welcome screen is now the home screen and has light project-less editor options
- Sound cues: audio feedback in long running tasks
- IntelliJ continues enhancing the support for git worktrees
- Terminal enhancements
- ghostty features
- you can have a terminal as an editor tab
- A number of UI freezes have been resolved (build system sync, inspections..), hope it enhances IntelliJ's responsiveness
